Day 3 continued ........

You're all in luck!! We're out in correlejo shopping and have found a wifi spot!! It's going to be a quick update but these are from Sunday- gym (spinning) and hydration lecture. Joe doing press ups for forgetting his pullbuoy and for being late for training! Mike forgot to tell older swimmers time and place of lecture so was made to do his forfeit of 20 press ups!!

Everyone has had a fantastic time so far, the sun has come out and everyone working hard but having plenty of fun at the same time!! I will update blog again in the morning all being well with the wifi at the hotel, it's very much 'luck' if you manage to get on!!!

Day 3......

I'm really sorry, but this is going to be brief as wifi has been rubbish today!! I've been in reception for over an hour and a half trying to update blog to no avail!! So I've 3 mins left to update as best I can!

Day 3 started with a 2 hour training session between 9-11am, followed by land training in the gymnasium, some did land based exercises/circuit, whilst others did a bit of spinning.  Lunch was served at 1pm, then most chilled by the pool, whilst others returned to their rooms preparing for their second 2 hour pool session between 4-6pm.

The day started off cloudy, however, the sun broke through to provide us all with a beautiful day, there was a much welcomed breeze throughout the day and it was a priority to ensure that sun team was plastered on all swimmers at all times!

Day 2......... Chocolate police hit Hotel Papagayo Sport!!

After a 'tip off' that huge quantities of chocolate had been smuggled into fuerteventura, Head Coach along with his chocolate detectives hit rooms in order to check out the stash!  Photographic evidence of the stash had been seen around the complex....

This evening, 4 rooms were searched, but one in particular was found to have excessive amounts of the banned substance hidden in and around their room, in the fridge, in cupboards, pillowcases along with wrappers in the bathroom, on the dining table and in fact EVERYWHERE you looked!

It was all done in jest, however, due to the large quantity being stored, the Head Coach and his detectives filled the bin bag and had it confiscated, leaving just enough for the two to eat during the rest of the week.

We have been informed that more room searches will be taking place during the course of the week, so please be aware everyone!!

Day 2 continued.........

After a well earned tea, everyone split into little groups around the main leisure pool which was lovely to see as no one disappeared off to their rooms, they all enjoyed themselves and at 9pm, they all dwindled off to their rooms in order to be ready for a tough day at the pool tomorrow (Sunday) as they are swimming 9.30-11.30, land training in the afternoon, followed by swimming again 4-6pm!

Day 2 continued.........

I am having to do the posts a bit at a time as I am limited as to how much I can put on a post, so please scroll through to make sure you've seen them all!!

Everyone met at the designated area (on time!!) however a couple of swimmers had forgotten a few pieces of kit, namely pull buoys and kick boards, so they were sent back to their rooms to collect them and upon return were awarded a number of press ups, in the hope they wouldn't forget them again!!

Before hitting the pool, everyone did a 20 min land warm up consisting of stretches and general warm up exercises, the group are working really well together, however the list of 'mishaps' is continuously growing hour by hour!

Then, at 4pm it was time to 'hit the water!' Swimmers were split into their lanes and they were off! Pioneer 79 Swim Camp 2014 had got underway! At the beginning of the session, the clouds had again congregated over corralejo. However, by the end of the session (6pm) the evening sunshine had returned.

It was great to see every swimmer completing their first session of the camp with plenty of smiles and no swimmers were put off by the shock of training in a 50m pool for the first time. (Of which there were a few!)

Day 2 continued......

Well, after a pretty dull start to our first full day in Fuerteventura, with would you believe it, RAIN!! The afternoon picked up and the sun burnt it's way through the clouds to give us a few hours of much appreciated, canary sunshine! After lunch, we all decided to head off as a group to have a 'reckie' of corralejo, to find out what was in the area.  Everyone donned their sun cream and off we went to find the beach! It took about 20 mins steady walking to find the sea, but it was a pleasant change of scenery.

Everywhere is surprisingly quiet, which is great! We walked past the water park en route to the beach and found out it had only opened today so, fingers crossed, we're going to work on a group deal to have a relaxing fun day there later in the week.  Once we had found our bearings, we headed back to the hotel complex to make sure everyone doused themselves in suncream again, got their bags ready and arrived at the meeting area before hitting the first of 10 two hour training sessions......

Day 2 so far!

Well, after a good sleep and a good breakfast, everyone was up and ready to go by 9! The swimmers have been completing their inductions in the gym to enable them to use the gym during their stay.  As one group finished, another went in.  After their inductions they went into the leisure pool to loosen off.  This afternoon I think we're planning on having a look at the surrounding area to find out what's about.  Here are a few pics from so far today.  Everyone seems to be settling in well, we just want the sun to break through the clouds, so FINGERS CROSSED!!

Day 1 continued.....

As already mentioned, the wifi connection is not great at all, even the uploads I'm struggling with, so please bear with me.....

The hotel oasis papagayo is a huge complex, very clean and spacious, everyone was allocated their rooms and given an hour to unpack before we all met up in reception to have a tour of the complex.  Everyone had a shock when Matt Sharpe and Chris Wilson turned up for the tour with........

PINK HAIR!!

We had a good look at the facilities, and even bumped into Karen Driver and Kate (triathlete) who were already in the 25m pool doing a bit of training! We then continued to the 50m pool and had a look at the layout, the lanes are very wide, so there should be no problem with the numbers in each lane.  After the tour it was tea time, there was a large selection of food, so everyone fed well.  After tea, we all ventured to the supermarket and stocked up on food and drink for the next couple of days. Then the children kept themselves entertained playing tig and hide and seek around the complex. (They all slept well!).

It's early days, with the lack of Internet access, updating wont be easy, but I will do my best to get it done each day as early as possible.

The time now is 9.40am and the group has been split into 3.  Currently one group are having their induction in the gym, then another 2 groups will follow.  Their first training session is this evening 4-6pm, so bye for now and keep checking!

Day 1......

Due to limited wifi, updates will be done between 8-12am each day...... So here goes everyone!!

Well, after meeting at accrington academy at 6am, the coach took us direct to manchester airport with no delays! We arrived at manchester airport and checked in straight away, new seats were allocated due to the aircraft being changed from a 787 to a 757 so it took a while to check in.  Moving through customs, a few people were delayed and items took off them ie, lip balm, drinks and a huge tub of Vaseline!! But eventually we were through :) let the journey begin......

The flight had no delays, it had a few bits of turbulence but all in all it was a great flight, with beautiful views of the algarve if you were lucky enough to be on the right side of the aircraft, unfortunately as you can tell from my picture...... I wasn't!!

We arrived at Fuerteventura airport 10 mins earlier than scheduled due to tailwinds, when we arrived, the sun was shining but it was a bit overcast.  The children had been fantastic on the long 4 hour flight, with no silliness or bad behaviour from anyone.  They were all very excited once we landed, sunglasses were at the ready!!  After about a 40 min transfer time to corralejo we'd arrived at our base for the next 7 days!

Hotel Oasis Papagayo..... A huge complex, very clean and spacious.  Everyone
